ANSWERS: Chess Words

Happy Super Bowl Sunday! On an unrelated note, I personally thought that my first "Chess Words" puzzle from about two weeks ago was a toughie, but that didn't stop nine of you from successfully solving it:
  • Grant Fikes ****
  • Kevin Orfield ****
  • Sam Levitin ****
  • Stephen Potter ****
  • Mom ****
  • Cindy Heisler ****
  • Tyler Hinman ****
  • Lynn Sweeney ***
  • Eric Maddy ****
Now head below the break for the answers as well as a few solver comments!

Queen's Rook: EXCHANGE
Queen's Knight: PUPPETRY
Queen's Bishop: WHIPLASH
Queen: GRIDIRON
King: KINKAJOU
King's Bishop: STUDENTS
King's Knight: MYSTIQUE
King's Rook: DEVOUTLY

The phrase that's spelled out when two of the words are combined is EXCHANGE STUDENTS

Patron Tyler Hinman "Got through five words before I noticed there were clues"

Solver Kevin Orfield said that "Assuming "MYSTIQUE PUPPETRY" isn't a new form of entertainment, the answer is EXCHANGE STUDENTS". Similarly, solver Eric Maddy claimed that "It was between that and "kinkajou mystique"....."
