  • Sam Levitin ****
  • Janis Ferry ****
  • Tyler Hinman ****
  • Lynn Sweeney ****
  • Dan Simonds *
  • Debbie Underwood ***
  • Adam Weaver ****
  • Brad Eldredge ****
Congratulations everyone! Now just head below the break for the answers! You'll also find a few solver comments there!

The hidden five-letter word, highlighted above, is ARMED

When TV Tropes says "Our Mermaids Are Different", they mean it!

Solver Eric Maddy said that "I assume [ARMED]'s what you're looking for although ARIMA seems to be a manga character, so I'm allowing for the possibility that's an alternative answer." [I haven't heard of Kishou Arima or Tokyo Ghoul, so that wasn't what I was looking for, but good find nonetheless!]

Solver Yossi Fendel noted that "Anagramming the dropped letters spells "SIMMER", as in "SIMMER DOWN!" - something plausible (but likely ineffective) that one might say to someone who is ARMED."

Solver Brad Eldredge also noticed "SIMMER", and he went a bit further when making a sentence out of it: "Dropped Letters: MSRIEM anagram to SIMMER, which is what the blood of MAD DAME may do if she were to MISREAD MEDIA she's trying to ADMIRE ;)"

Solver Adam Weaver "Spent too long looking for a 5 letter word in the center five rows"

Solver Sam Levitin said "and presumably dangerous, too" while conversely, solver Grant Fikes said "That puzzle wasn't very dangerous."
